Murphy Canyon Road used to be one of the main north/south routes in San Diego until it was bypassed by Interstate 15. While the central portion of the road is now a business district and the southern end has become a bicycle path and the northern portion is no more. A stretch of the northern portion of the road still exists however, closed off and abandoned. This abandoned road in the middle of San Diego gives an idea what the area looked like in the early 20th century.
